Obituary of Alice Mildred Newland

ALICE  MILDRED  NEWLAND

KINGSPORT- Alice Mildred Jones Newland, 98, of the Bloomingdale community, was carried away by angels to her Heavenly Home on Monday morning (October 1, 2018) surrounded by her family and friends.  She was born in Scott County, Virginia and had resided the majority of her life in Kingsport.   Mildred was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother who truly loved the Lord and her family.  Mrs. Newland was an active member of Bloomingdale Baptist Church for many years.  She was preceded in death by her husband,  Robert Ray Newland; parents, Ben Jones, Sr. and Addie Grimm Jones; her step-granddaughter, Cindy Goan;  her sisters, Frances Rector and Leota Hobbs; her brothers, Ben Jones, Jr., Ralph Jones, and Carl Jones.

Alice Mildred Newland is survived by her sons, Benny Newland and wife, Betty and Phillip Newland; her grandchildren, Tim Newland and wife, Dawn; her granddaughter, Crystal Newland King and husband, Jacob; a step-grandson, Mike Horn and wife, Sheila; her step granddaughter, Robin King; 4 great grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 4 step great-great grandchildren; a devoted and beloved cousin, Linda Szadziewicz along with several nieces and nephews.  A special thank you goes out to Tammy Payne for her unselfish love and devotion to Mrs. Newland.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday (October 3, 2018) at Bloomingdale Baptist Church from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. or friends may also call anytime at the residence.  A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday (October 3, 2018) at 7 p.m. with Pastor Phil Whittemore, officiating.  Music will be provided by the Church Choir and Anna Taylor.  A graveside service will be held on Thursday (October 4, 2018) at 1 p.m. at Walnut Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with the deacons of Bloomingdale Baptist Church serving as pallbearers.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bloomingdale Baptist Church Building Fund, 3220 Bloomingdale Road, Kingsport, TN 37660.  You can send an online condolence to the family by visiting www.cartertrent.com.     Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Newland family.
