I am sorry to just now read of Joe's passing. I was honored to call him a friend and I will always remember what a great person Joe was to so many. We always enjoyed hosting his softball tournaments at Pigeon Forge City Park and I enjoyed working with him while I was Park Superintendent. Joe will be greatly missed. The family will continue to be in my prayers.
Sincerely,
Lee Fox

Joe will be missed. We had a couple softball teams from Newport (Nast Boys and Gatorade/Quaker) we all spent a lot of time with Joe during those years of softball. I will say for myself it was some of the best years. There will never be another Joe around the softball fields. So sorry for you loss.

My memories of Mr. Caldwell are many and very clear. I learned much from him during the time the family lived on Scenic Drive. I learned to garden- we kids had great cornstalk fights at the end of the summer. I learned to play baseball from Joe Earl, at least he tried his best to teach me. I remember standing in awe watching him climb the tallest tree in the neighborhood. I remember his energy, his smile, his friendly nature and how his family looked up to him. He was full of life.
My condolences to the family. We haven't met since his 1996 retirement party from Holston Electric Coop, the same time my mother retired. It's good to have such memories. May you all find comfort in reliving the times of goodness, love and family.

Joe and I coached the Tennessee Red Hotz Girls Softball Team together for over seven years. We started working with 13-14 year olds and went through 18 year olds. Joe loved softball and his teams and players. We went to 6 World Series from Orlando Florida, to Coco Beach Florida to Atlanta Georgia to Saulsberry Maryland during our rain together. He loved winning, but he also loved fairness. He always got his teams the best in equipment and uniforms. He spent lots of time and money to help these young ladies do and feel their best.
I had not seen Joe in over 10 years but I kept meeting girls that played for one of his teams. He helped all of his girls realize their dreams.
I found Joe to be a very giving and kind person. Sometimes his Head Coach in life (Jolene) would have to bring us back to reality and we would need her leadership to keep us inline and out of trouble.
I know Joe influenced thousands of young women all over the United States through USSSA and ISA Softball. Some are still in school, some are mothers, some are colleges and high school coaches, and some will soon be getting married and becomeing medical doctors, but at one time they were Tennessee Red Hotz and playing softball for Joe Caldwell.
May Joe Rest In Peace and get to coach all his players in life from above.
Your old friend and coach.
