Obituary of Bernice Horton

Kingsport – Mrs. Bernice “Bun” Horton, 85 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 16, 2019 at Wexford House. Born in Johnson City, she had lived in Kingsport for most of her life and was a retired nurse, having worked at Holston Valley Medical Center for 35 years. She was a member of Powerful New Life Church. Mrs. Horton was a missionary and traveled with groups to several countries, including the Holy Land.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Horton, Jr.; her daughter, Elaine Watterson; her parents, Josiah White, Sr. and Carrie Crawford White; her sister, Shirley Smith; her brothers, Josiah White, Jr., Timothy White and Hezekiah White.

Mrs. Horton is survived by her daughter, Gail Watterson Peterson; sons, Gregory Watterson and husband Thomas, Richard Watterson, Jr. and wife Regina and Ricky Watterson; grandchildren, Kandes, Reggie, Kennedy and Princeton, great-grandchildren, Austin and Kingston; sisters, Elizabeth “Ann” Hausey and Mona Lisa White; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Craig Smith.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Central Baptist Church; 301 Carver Street, Kingsport, TN. Friends may also call anytime at the home of the son, Gregory Watterson at 412 Dunbar Street, Kingsport, TN.

Following the receiving of friends, a funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. at the church with Pastor Hugh Hale officiating. Burial will follow at East Tennessee Cemetery in Blountville. Pallbearers will be Reggie Peterson, Steven Tolley, Richard Watterson, Jr., and Tyler Hodges.
