Obituary of William "Bill" Eugene Oney

William “Bill” Eugene Oney went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 22, 2019.

He was born in 1933 in Castlewood, VA to the late William Abel Oney and Dora (Robinson) Oney. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a farmer in his early years and worked at the Kingsport Press. For the past 40 plus years he was owner and operator of Oney Trucking Company until retirement. He was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Neil Oney; sisters, Maida Oney Dundon and Linda Oney.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Pauline Glenn Oney; sons, Greg Oney and wife Kay, Mark Oney and wife Mary of Kingsport; sister, Judy Brewer and husband David of Roanoke, VA; brother, James Abel Oney and wife Amelia of Gate City, Va.; sister-in-law, Faye Glenn of Richmond, VA and Cathy Araujo and Husband Henry of Indiana; brother-in-law, Robert Glenn of Florida; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4pm to 6pm on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home downtown, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with Dr. Cecil Sturgill officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3pm on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at East Lawn Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 2:50pm.
