Obituary of Norman Lane Sykes
Kingsport – Norman Lane Sykes, 72 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born on July 1, 1947 in Kingsport, where he lived his whole life. Norman was a graduate of Ketron High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the City of Kingsport in 2000. Norman was a member of Springdale Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, dad and papaw who loved his family with all his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Frances Bishop Sykes; brothers, Harry, Harvey and Bill Sykes.
Norman is survived by his wife of 51 years, Geraldine Brewer Sykes; daughter, Michelle Williams and husband Dustin; son, Jason Sykes and wife Holly; grandchildren, Kenny, Taylor and Connor Sykes, Max and Halle Grace Williams; great-grandson, Bo Sykes; sister, Brenda Mahan; brothers, Mickey Sykes and wife Penny and Jeffery Sykes and wife Connie; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home.
A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Alan Buckles officiating.
A military graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mtn Home National Cemetery with American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 conducting the rites. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Pallbearers will be Kenny Sykes, Taylor Sykes, Connor Sykes, Brandon Sykes, Robbie Mahan and Bennie Smith.
