Obituary of Melissa Burke Crawford

Melissa Burke Crawford, 54, of Gate City, Virginia went to be with the Lord on April 13, 2020 after a courageous 12 year battle with cancer.

Melissa was born on January 29, 1966 in Kingsport, TN. She was the owner and a beautician at Changes Hair Design. She enjoyed spending every second with her three grandchildren. She loved remodeling, painting and decorating.

She was preceded in death by her father, Buford Burke; mother Faye Byrd;  two brothers, Jerry Burke and Jeff Burke; along with one sister, Anita Burke Bragg.

Melissa is survived by her loving fiancé of 18 years, Chuck Smith; son Scott Hill; daughter, Nikki Hill Jennings and husband Wil Jennings; brother Mark Burke; three grandchildren Carter Derting, Parker Jennings and Mali Jennings; along with several nieces and nephews.

Melissa and Chuck would request that everyone send flowers to a loved one, friend or neighbor.

Due to the state restriction for Covid-19, a private graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Byrd Family Cemetery, 192 Geranium Drive, East Carters Valley Community, of Gate City, VA   with Brother Tony Smith officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside at the home.

A celebration of life service will be held for Melissa in July.
