A man who did not waver and completely surrendered to the ministry. He remained constant behind the pulpit, in the office and at his home; an authentic human being. Pastor Sturgill forgave as he was forgiven and would go to any length to correct an error; to "make it right." There was not any expectation placed on his contemporaries that he did not place on himself first. Pastor had an uncanny ability of knowing exactly where someone was broken; being able to minister to that need. Faithful, compassionate and a true journeyman, fully committed to moving forward. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ, preached The Word, and lived by The Word. He loved God's people and gave his all to the church. Pastor loved his family and was so proud of them all. It was a privilege to work and serve along side him and he became to me like a second father. When I move through life I appear to have a lot my Dad's attributes but when I speak, I hear my second father. Thanks be to God for His mercy in giving a place at the table to the least of His children. My thoughts are with the family, church and everyone that was touched of God through this "ole country preacher"; Dr Cecil Sturgill, Pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist Church from 7.4.70 to 2.1.21.

Dear Sturgill Family,
It saddens me to learn of Cecil's passing. Fond memories from happier times past including the many visits to the old Chilhowie Barbershop and the Baptist Church. May God comfort you in this time of sadness and loss.

I always had a lot of respect for pastor Sturgill, after having met his father in Chilhowie,Va.,who owned some lucrative businesses,I knew that Cecil could probably have pursued different avenues,& then, locally,I observed him having breakfast with a man,who was, obviously, down on his luck,& I guessed at the reasons Pastor Sturgill was dining with him,& I admired him for that,(Talk The Talk, but, can you Walk The Wak?)and, for these reasons,I will not forget him.My condolences to his wonderful Parents,Family,& Loved Ones.RIP Sir,& may your works always bear the fruits.Amen.

Pastor Sturgill you were one of my Spiritual Heroes of the Faith. You were always there for me and my family. Early morning late at night always the faithful undershepherd. Faithful until the end, no longer having to look up for Christ coming but sitting in His presence. We will always remember your words as we wait for our Saviour "Look up Jesus may come Today" and know you will be there with us when he does.

Prayers and condolences to Jeff, Melissa, Olivia, and the family of Preacher Sturgill. May GOD fill you with joyful memories where feelings of emptiness maybe. Where grief abounds, you will have blessings of precious times spent together. That you will have love and peace where hurting is. A couple of memories of many I will share. One is of him walking to church carrying his bible.
It was when the family lived on Pinehurst. Another is on the Youth Missionary Trip to Jicarilla Indian Reservation in New Mexico. He enjoyed helping others while we were there. He loved serving the LORD and preaching the Gospel. And genuinely showed love toward others. Preacher Sturgill loved the LORD and serving Him all he could. The way GOD wanted him to, not the world. It is a joy to know that he is in heaven with GOD, Jesus, his loving wife Mrs Betty, and all the Saints who've gone on before. What a blessing from the Lord I got to know a true man of GOD. GOD is good all the time. All the time GOD is good. Love sent to the family from Rebecca and Brandon Redwine

Family, in times like this I am so thankful for the presence and promises of God. I am also thankful that I had the privilege to love and for several years serve under one who practiced His presence and preached His promises. Bro. Cecil was truly what he desired to be - a faithful servant for the Lord he loved. He will be surely missed but I am so thankful that we will see him again. Jeff, Melissa and Olivia we have you on our hearts and very much in our prayers!

You all are in my thoughts and prayers. I have very special memories of Pastor Sturgill. He was my pastor thru all my school years. He baptised me when I was 15 years old. I am thankful for those years that he poured the truths and knowledge of the word into my life. Under his leadership, I grew in the foundation of my faith in Christ.
