Obituary of Donald Harvey Boyd

Donald H. Boyd, age 87, of Knoxville, Tennessee, died Monday morning, May 10, 2021 surrounded by his family at his beloved home. Born July 19, 1933, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, he was the son of the late Harvey and Ollie Boyd.

Don was a respected Training Consultant and Supervisor of Operator Training at Eastman Chemical Company. He retired from Eastman on September 1, 1997. Don was a past member of the following clubs or organizations: Kingsport Sertoma Club (Past President), Kingsport Chamber of Commerce (served on Tennessee Legislative Action Committee), Citizens’ Advisory Committee to Major, American Legion, Hammond Post #3 (Adjutant), Loyal Order of Moose and B.P.O.E, Budget and Admissions Committee of Kingsport Community Chest, Board of Directors of Kingsport Community Chest, Volunteer Worker at Kingsport Detoxification Center, Board of Directors of Kingsport Alcohol and Drug Council, Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent and Deacon, Scout Master, Upper East Tennessee Area Chairman of Tennessee Industrial Personnel Conference, President American Society for Training and Development, East Tennessee Chapter, Rock Hill, SC Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors of Kingsport Sheltered Workshop, Chairman Sullivan Count March of Dimes. As well, he was a nominee of Kingsport’s Outstanding Young Man of the Year award, was selected to appear in 1972 edition of “Personalities of the South” and was Junior Achievement Advisor for two years (won Company of the South award).  

In his spare time, he enjoyed playing card games, crossword puzzles and attending the Daily Living Center with his friends and family. Don was married to Frances L. Boyd for 66 years.

Don is survived by his daughter and son, Kelly Pratt and Michael Boyd; along with five grandchildren; Jonathan Boyd, Haylee Goff, Kegan Boyd, Chesney Starnes and Evann Pressley; 6 great grandchildren; Madison Boyd, JJ Boyd, Layla Boyd, Amelia Pressley, Milena Boyd and William Grey Goff along with many loving nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Per Donald’s wishes no formal services will be conducted.
