Obituary of Lizzie Leona Buchanan

Leona Buchanan, age 87, of Church Hill, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 4, 2022, at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. She was a member of the Upper Room Fellowship Church in Church Hill where she proudly sang in the choir. Leona enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Senior Citizens Center in Church Hill and greatly enjoyed listening to her talented brother, G.C. Matlock play music.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Rassie Buchanan; step-daughter, Joyce Buchanan Marshall; father, Enoch Derrick; and mother, Lillie Mae Matlock.

She is survived by her brother, G.C. Matlock; niece, Elizabeth Faith Snodgrass (Eric); great niece, Savannah Snodgrass; great-nephew, Silas Snodgrass; granddaughters, Teresa Bellamy (Scott) and Karen Pearson (David); great-grandchildren, Keegan Pearson (Julianne), Spencer Pearson, Matthew Bellamy and Daniel Bellamy; great great-granddaughter, Catherine Pearson; sister-in-law and special friend, Nancy Ward; half siblings, Juanita Yowell, Marie Hardman, Ellen Derrick, Joan Giddings, Gertrude Papa and Enoch Derrick, Jr; aunt, Lorene Matlock; and special friend, James Bradshaw.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Winegar Cemetery on Caney Valley Road in Surgoinsville, TN with Pastor Keith Williams officiating. All those wishing to go in procession are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:00 pm.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Church Hill Health and Rehab Center and Holston Valley ICU and Wilcox Hall for their love, support and care for Leona during this difficult time.
