Obituary of Betty Jean Smith

Betty Jean Smith, age 83 of Blountville, TN entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, March 18, 2023.  Betty was born on October 29, 1939, in Kingsport, TN to Elbert and Gladys Jackson.  On May 15, 1965, Betty married Jack Arnold Smith, and after 55 years of a beautiful life together, and making many wonderful memories, he preceded in her death on June 26, 2020.

Betty was a member of Orebank Missionary Baptist Church and she spent many years teaching Sunday School.  She retired in 1988 and she enjoyed traveling and reading.  She was involved in cub-scouts, T-ball and little league basketball.  She truly lived a great life.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Jack Smith; son, Kenny Smith; sister, Dorothy Purinton; and three brothers, Carl Jackson, Hobert Jackson, and Otis Jackson.  Left to cherish her memory are her son, Darren Smith and wife Tammy; one granddaughter, Morgan Spangler and husband Zack; brother, Bobby Jackson; and many loving nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Carter Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport.  A funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm with Brother David Dotson officiating.  A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 10:00 am, at East Lawn Memorial Park.
