Obituary of Katharine Reavis Bowie

Katharine Reavis Bowie died at Asbury Place in Kingsport, Tennessee on July 24, 2023. She was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 28, 1936 and named Katharine Anita Reavis.

Her parents were Howard Taft Reavis and Delle Wofford Reavis.

Her family moved to Galax, Virginia, where she was a cheerleader and a talented tap dancer, performing with school friends in school and community entertainment.

In 1953, she married Jimmy Bowie, who was her loving husband of almost seventy years. Together, they reared three children, and while she was a busy mother, she also helped support her husband in three years of undergraduate school and three years of law school at Washington and Lee University.

She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and Fort Chiswell chapter of Daughters of American Revolution

In addition to her husband, Katharine will be missed by the following, loving survivors.

Her three children and their spouses: Bob and Debbie Bowie, Anita and Gary Morton, and Mike and Amy Bowie; Grandchildren and spouses:  Amanda Montgomery (single), Cari Rodrigue (single), Amber and James Forrester, Nick and Haley Bowie; Eleven Great-Grandchildren and One Great-Great-Grandchild; along with her brother, James Reavis.

A memorial service will be conducted at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga St., Kingsport, at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Speakers will include Jim and Bob Bowie. Music will be provided by Anita and Gary Morton. Those wishing to attend are asked to arrive by 1:50 P.M.
