Obituary of Janie Sue Johnson Gilbert

Janie Sue Johnson Gilbert, 79, of Summerville, SC went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2023. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. Janie also enjoyed working in her rose garden and was an animal lover. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother “granny”, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Christia F. “Papaw” Johnson and Ida Mae Peters.  

Survivors include her husband, Donald Gilbert Sr.; son, Rick Hunter (Janet) and their children, Adam Hunter (Holly), Alycia Hunter; son, Donald Gilbert Jr. (Lori) and their children, Ashley Gilbert, Donald “Trey” Gilbert III (Jasmine); son, Danny Gilbert (Liz) and their children,  Austin Gilbert (Ashley), Cameron Gilbert (Lauren), Brendan Gilbert (Hailey), Travis Grass (Courtney); son, David Gilbert (Vickie) and their children, Matthew Gilbert (April), Christopher Gilbert, Jennifer Crawford (Mark); daughter, Pam Gilbert (Wendy); 12 great-grandchildren; along with a host of friends and extended family.  

The family will receive friends from 11am to 12pm on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with Rev. Jack Edwards officiating.  

A graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Trey Gilbert, Adam Hunter, Austin Gilbert, Matthew Gilbert, Christopher Gilbert, Cameron Gilbert, and Brendan Gilbert serving as pallbearers.
