Obituary of Lane H. Newsome

Lane H. Newsome Sr., 81 of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 6:24 pm after a brief illness. Lane was born in Gibson, GA and grew up in Augusta, GA. He joined the United States Navy in 1963 and served 4 years on the USS Independence including a tour in Vietnam. He was a faithful member of Bible Way Baptist Church in Kingsport, TN.

 

Lane moved to Kingsport, TN in 1965 where he lived with his wife of 58 years, Dana Prillhart Newsome. Together they raised 3 children; Lane Newsome, Jr. (Alethea), Caroline McCracken, and Chris Newsome (Bobbie). He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Isaac Newsome, Lindsey Lawson, Emma McCracken, Joey Dodson and Bindi Newsome; along with 2 great-grandchildren, Brantley and Maverick Lawson.

 

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Bible Way Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm with brother Rick Vannoy officiating.

A military graveside service will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Hamlett-Dobson Memorial Park at 2630 Hwy 75, Blountville, TN with honors conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3/265. Those wshing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am.

The Newsome family would like to extend special thanks to all the staff at Smoky Mtn. Home Health and Hospice for their extraordinary and compassionate care during this difficult time.
