



Obituary of Albert "Al" Fletcher
Albert “AL” Fletcher, 76 of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 8, 2023. Al was born in Yuma, Virginia on April 15, 1947 and was raised in the Yuma Community. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1967-1969. He was recently awarded the Quilt of Valor by Southern Appalachian Quilt of Valor Quilters Foundation. After returning home he began working for Eastman Chemical Company and retired after 30 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked part time at Sears and Advance Auto Parts. Al was an active member at Sullivan Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Walter and Lillie Fletcher; and his brothers, Junior and Charles Fletcher.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lucretia Quillen Fletcher; daughter, Ashley Compton and husband Brian; brother, James “Eddie” Fletcher and wife Debbie; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:30pm to 7pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Sullivan Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Jeff Strong Officiating.
A military graveside service will be conducted at 3pm on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at East lawn Memorial Park with honors conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3/265. Pallbearers will be Eddie Fletcher, Denny Quillen, Greg Harrison, Bob Bach, Ed Guinn, and Paul Overbay. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brad Quillen, Brian Quillen, and Joe Bragg.
Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 2:50pm.
The Fletcher family would like to thank, Eddie Fletcher for his tremendous assistance during Al’s illness and many other family members for their support and assistance. Also, we would like to give special thanks to Dr. Grace Ward and her nurse Linda and the entire staff of Smoky Mountain Hospice, especially Kelly Elkins Fry for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, Al requested that donations be made to Sullivan Baptist Church, 4152 Maplewood St. Kingsport, TN 37660.
