Obituary of Maxie Goforth Fentress
Maxie Goforth Fentress, age 87, formerly of Corbin, KY, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2023 in Church Hill, TN, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born to the late John Preston Goforth and Clara Mae McFarland Goforth in London, KY, on July 10, 1936. Maxie was an avid baseball fan of the Chicago Cubs for over 60 years. Before retiring Maxie was a waitress for 42 years. She also loved to travel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harlin (Bud) Goforth; sister, Florence McNew; half-siblings, Richard, Lizzie, George, Myrtle, Bill, Mae, Cora, Nora and Cy Goforth; and special friend and ex-husband, Wavie Fentress.
She is survived by her son, Ron Fentress (Tammie); grandchildren, Rachel, Zachary, Alex (Terri), Jeffrey (Geanie) and Joseph Fentress; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Amira, Sarah, Brianna, Isaiah, Bentley, Elijah, Riley, Alexis and Eli; several nieces and nephews, along with a very special little boy that she held close to her heart.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill, TN. A Funeral Service will begin at 5:00 pm with Pastor Josh McKinney officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Pine Creek Cemetery in London, KY. All those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery.
