Obituary of Berl Cecil Jennings

Berl Cecil Jennings, 94, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, of Weber City, VA, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.

Berl was born on August 8, 1929 in Nickelsville, VA, a son of the late Lilburn Isaac Jennings and Nellie (Culbertson) Jennings. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special granddaughter, Amy Bright and special grandson, Mitchell Bright; sister, Edna Perkins; brothers, Gale Jennings and Kyle Jennings.

He attended Holston View United Methodist Church for 50 years and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Berl retired from Holston Defense in 1992 after 11 years of service. After retirement he continued his skill of carpentry as well as running his excavation business.

Surviving are his wife of over 66 years, Shirley Sampson Jennings; daughters, Terri Hall and Rhonda Bright Lane; grandsons, Caleb Bright, Joshua Bright, Chad Morgan and Justin Morgan; 2 great-grandsons; 3 great-granddaughters; sister, Myrtle Wolfe; special brother-in-law, Roger Sampson; several nieces and nephews along with special niece, Debbie Jennings and special nephew, Mark Sampson.

Graveside services will be held at 12 noon Friday, March 8, 2024 at Holston View Cemetery with his Pastor Chuck Griffin officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Hammond Post 3/265.

Family and friends are welcome to gather at 11:15 am at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Caleb Bright, Joshua Bright, Chad Morgan, Justin Morgan, Adam Sampson and Bryan Babb.

Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, VA is in charge of the arrangements.
