Obituary of Guye J. Sanders

Guye J. Sanders, age 80 of Kingsport, TN, passed away on May 1, 2024, after a long illness.  Guye was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.  Born on January 25, 1944, in Slant, VA, Guye moved to Kingsport at a very young age with his family.  He was a graduate of Ketron High School, Class of 1962.  Guye retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 35 years; then he worked at Resp-i-care for another 12 years.  Guye was an avid gardener, fisherman, and all-around fix-it guy.  His passion after retirement was family and genealogy. 

Guye was preceded in death by his parents, George “Jack” Sanders and Rellie Mae Starnes Sanders; one sister, Romelda “Sis” Sanders; and two brothers, Fred L. Sanders, and Bill R. Sanders.  Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Lynn Hobbs Sanders; son, Timothy M. Sanders and life-partner Jenny Aldrich; daughter, Sherri R. Sanders Sherman and husband Scott; two grandchildren, Jason and Abbygail Sherman; one sister, Marcella M. Sanders Fairchild; one brother, Ralph Sanders; sister-in-law, Kathy Arnold and husband Wes; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members. 

The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to the caregivers who helped us care for Guye on this journey, Lynn, Jo, Tenea, Brenda, Carman, and close family friend, Kelly.  Thank you to Amedisys Hospice Staff and the many friends we have made along the way. 

In Liu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Alzheimer’s of East Tennessee or Scott County Historical Society.  

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City.  A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm at Holston View Cemetery.  Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers.
