Obituary of Gloria S. Frye

Gloria Sue Charles Frye, 76, of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord early Thursday morning (January 8, 2015) at her residence with her family surrounded by her side. She was born in Sullivan County and had resided in Church Hill for the past 52 years. Gloria belonged to the Crewettes with the Church Hill Rescue Squad for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and was a Christian. Mrs. Frye was an avid sports fan who especially loved the Atlanta Braves. She was preceded in death by her husband, David E. Frye; daughter, Stella Cross; son, James Frye; granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Yakley; parents, I. Frank and Marie C. Charles. Gloria Frye is survived by her son, Lamar Frye and wife, Christi; a daughter, Bettina Yakley; grandchildren, Mia McBride, Heather Peavler, Amanda Garrison and husband, Kendall, Jasmine Roberts and husband, Dustin, Ryan Frye, Chelsea Frye, Trae Yakley, Makala Lindsey, and Dylan Hughes; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Frances Shoemaker, Lela Shupe, Faye Smith, Brenda Lord; brothers, Wendall Charles and Phillip Ellis; her dear friends, Eula Anderson and Ruth Ann Housewright; several nieces and nephews; along with her beloved pet, "Oreo". A special thank-you goes out to Amedisys Hospice, especially Becky, Sheila, Jeff, August, Michael, Connie, and Melissa for the special care given during her illness. Calling hours will be held on Saturday (January 10, 2015) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill or friends may also call anytime at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday (January 10, 2015) at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Chad Roberts, officiating. A graveside service will be conducted on Sunday (January 11, 2015) at 2 p.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens with Dustin Roberts, Dylan Hughes, Matt Carrico, Dennis Musser, Larry Yakley Jr., Aaron Brickey serving as pallbearers. Family and friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. to go in procession. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, South Carolina, 29605.
