Obituary of Charles Edward Murrell

Kingsport - Charles Edward Murrell, 67, went to his heavenly home on Saturday January 3, 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and also served in Korea. Charles was employed with the City of Kingsport Fire Department for 26 years and was a charter member of the Kingsport Chapter of the Christian Firefighters Association and served to meet the spiritual needs of his friends and co-workers. Charles was a devoted member, deacon and teacher at Midfield Freewill Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed singing and listening to music. He enjoyed mission work and had traveled to Belize, Japan and South Dakota. Charles was preceded in death by his father, C.D. Murrell. Survivors include his mother, Madalene Hall Murrell; sister, Carolyn Judd and Bob Baker; four nephews, Marty Judd and wife, Myra, Stacy Judd and wife Emily, Tracy Judd and Jeremy Judd and Heather Hance; eight great nieces and nephews, Tyler, Troy, Cory, Kierstyn, Abby, Hannah, Noah and Bentley. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Monday January 5, 2015 at Midfield Freewill Baptist Church, 1801 Granby Road, Kingsport, TN 37665. A service will follow at 7 pm at the church with Rev. Jesse Hartgrove, Rev. Billy Gragg and Chaplain Barry Carr officiating. Music will be provided by the Dishner Family. A military graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Oak Hill Memorial Park with American Legion Post 3 and Gate City Post 265 conducting the rites. Pallbearers will be Jim Darter, Bruce McMillian, Ralph Webb, Doug Boggs, Andy Eidson, Jerry Tomlinson, Charlie White and Steve Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be the Kingsport Fire Fighters. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Midfield Freewill Baptist Church, 1801 Granby Road, Kingsport, TN 37665 or a charity of one's choosing. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Murrell family.
