Obituary of Maudie Bishop Cody

Maudie Bishop Cody, 71, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Sunday September 7, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in Scott County, VA and lived the majority of her life in upper east Tennessee. She loved to sew and read her bible. She also enjoyed writing gospel songs. She attended numerous churches in the area. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arlie and Lura Manis Bishop; daughter-in-law, Robbie Kerns; brother, J.P. Bishop; sister, Mae Bishop; nephew, Tommy Bishop; great niece, Emily Grace Akers She is survived by her sons, Allen Kerns and wife Denise, Edward Kerns and wife Becky, and Mack Kerns; daughters, Kimberly Croy and husband Daniel, Tanya "T.J." Graham and husband Eric; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Nova McDavid, Bula Fay Griffin and husband, Dan, Janie Hilton, Betty Trent and husband Charles; brothers, Artie Bishop and wife Rhonda and Tom Bishop and wife, Brenda; her two very dear friends, Delores and Tommy; along with a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport. A service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joe Hill and Rev. Denny Hess officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Chimney Top Baptist Church Cemetery, Fall Branch, TN. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
