Obituary of Edith Meade Buck

Edith Buck, 87, passed into Heaven peacefully in her home, surrounded by her children, on September 4, 2014. She was born in Hartwell, W. Virginia, on December 23, 1926, but spent the majority of her adult life in the Kingsport area. She was a godly wife, mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother to her family who loved her and looked to her as an example to follow. Her love for the Lord was evident to everyone who met her. Edith was a member of Calvary Baptist Church on Pine Street in Kingsport, for almost 40 years where she was actively involved teaching in the children's department for many of those years. After she and her husband, Rev. Howard Buck, Sr., started the Senior Adult ministry at Calvary, she transitioned to helping with their planned outings and Bible Studies and was a vital part of that ministry. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, her son-in-law, her parents, two brothers, one sister, two nieces, one nephew and one grandson. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Buck Karant, Anita Buck Walton, Gayle Buck Whitson and husband Gary Whitson, her son, Howard L. Buck, Jr., eight grandchildren and their families, and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Peg Meade Lell of Kingsport and Della Meade Miller of Dallas, Texas and one brother, Ronald Meade also of Kingsport and many nieces and nephews and their families. The Buck family also wants to thank the many caregivers who took care of Mrs. Buck during her illness. Special thanks to Pat Cupp who lovingly cared for her for the past 2 ½ years. Pat was so loved by our mother. Also, our gratitude goes out to the Wellmont Hospice team who were so wonderful to our mom and who were available to the family every time we had questions or concerns. The family will be receiving friends at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport from 12:00 to 1:00 pm on Sunday, September 7th. The service will follow at funeral home chapel at 1:00 pm with friend of the family Rev. Terry S. Whitson officiating. Reverend Whitson will also conduct a graveside service immediately following at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport. Pallbearers will be Howard Buck, Jr., Gary Whitson, Bart Snowden, Randy Meade, Marty Delacruz, and John Karant. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the family of Edith Buck.
