Obituary of John Charles Cox

John Charles Cox, 80, of Church Hill went to be with the Lord from complications of pneumonia on May 20, 2014. John was a retired truck driver who had a love for racing, motorcycles, his family and all animals. John was of the Methodist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Paul Mitchell Cox; his parents, C.H. (Rank) and Eleanor Cox; brothers, Bob and Howard "Jack" Cox; grandson, Justin Benton. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Cox Benton of Church Hill; son, Mitchell Cox of Surgoinsville; granddaughter, Heather (Jake) Christian; great grandchildren, Kenzie Benton, Teah McPeek and Emily Christian; brother, Jim (Janice) Cox of Surgoinsville; sisters, Anna Sis (Reece) Bailey and Judy Cox; sister-in-law, Linda Manriquez of Laruel, MD, and Bobbie Fairell of Laurel, MD and Inez Slemp of Surgoinsville; brother-in-law, Kenneth Leeper of Surgoinsville; along with several nieces and nephews; and his precious cat, Boots. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 1115 Highway 11W, Church Hill. A service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mitch Russell officiating. Music will be provided by Teah McPeek. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard and the Shaw Air Force Base Honor Guard, Sumpter, SC. at 3 pm Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Fudges Chapel United Methodist Church, 245 Fudges Chapel Road, Surgoinsville, TN. Pallbearers will be Scott Leeper, Chad Lee, Bob Maness, Jimmy Maness, Freddy Hurd and Shane Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Matlock, Charles Ellis, Glen Armstrong and Kenneth Leeper. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:15 pm to go in to procession. The family would like to send a special thank you to the 5th floor nurses and Dr. Moore at Indian Path Medical Center, room 529, and Amedisys Nurse, Sandra Nadeau.
