Obituary of Virginia McDavid Free

Virginia McDavid Free, 87, of the Dan'l Boone Community, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (Sunday May 4, 2014) at her home surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was a lifelong resident of Scott County. She previously attended several churches over her lifetime as a Pastor's wife and helpmate. Her last church of attendance was Homeland Baptist Church prior to failing health problems. Virginia was a caregiver for her mother, brother and sister until they went home to be with the Lord. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who enjoyed spending time with and cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Harold L. Free; parents, Rev. Reece and Cora Morrison McDavid; special granddaughter, Vanessa K . Free; grandson in law, Donnie Cox; special brother, Grady E. McDavid; sister Irene McDavid; her brothers, Clyde, Clarence, Carl, Cecil and Harry McDavid. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Lesa Free Ryan, Gate City; three sons, Lesley (Les) Free, Gate City, David Michael Free, Baltimore, MD and Phillip Free and wife Sheila, Duffield; sisters in law, Mary Lucille McDavid, Betty Free, June Free, Phyllis Free, Sharlie Housewright, Judy McCurry and Janet Cox; five grandchildren, Jason Ryan, Heather Free Cox, Michael Reece Free, Shannon Alley, Jennifer Horne and husband Scott; three great grandchildren, Gregory Cox, Afytn (Affie) Cox, Brittany Blevins and husband Seth; five great great grandchildren, Kaylee Blevins, Bentley Blevins, Mason Horne, Belle Horne and Ashlyn Horne; several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends The family will receive friends from 5 till 7:30pm Thursday (May 8th, 2014) at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 7:30pm with Pastor J.W. Depew and Rev. Riley Boy officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00pm Friday (May 9th, 2014) at Holston View Cemetery with Pastor J.W. Depew and Rev. Bill Tignor officiating. Those who plan to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15pm to follow in procession. Pallbearers will be Eddie Swayze, James Perry, Dennis Winston, Rev. Bill Tignor, Roger Free and Michael Reece Free. Honorary pallbearers are Rev. Ray Dockery, Rev. Paul Blessing, Rev. Milligan Herron, Jim Smith, Allen McDavid, Ronald Burke and Eddie Free Carter-Trent/ Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Free family.
