Obituary of Carl E. Kilgore

Carl E. "Butler" Kilgore, 92, of Gate City, passed away peacefully at the Wexford House (Monday April 28, 2014) A native of Scott County, and the youngest of seven siblings, he has lived in the area all of his life. Butler retired from Kingsport Power Company after over 30 years of service. Upon retirement, he did electrical work for family and friends. He enjoyed his family, gardening and woodworking. He was a member of the Weber City Optimist Club where he was President for 4 years and the Oddfellows lodge #17. He was also a member of Salley's Chapel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Myra Nell Wampler Kilgore; his 2nd wife, Sue Stallard Kilgore and six brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son, C. Steven Kilgore and wife Cathy of Kingsport; daughter, Gina Kilgore Moore and husband, Greg, of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, Brantley Steven Kilgore of Nashville, Clayton F. Kilgore of Kingsport, Quentin R. Kilgore, Charlotte, Alison Catherine Kilgore of Kingsport and Claire Jackson Kilgore of Kingsport; along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday May 1, 2014 at Scott County Funeral Home. A service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor George Winegar officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Friday May 2, 2014 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Virginia. Pallbearers will be grandsons and family.
