Obituary of Kenneth Lee Sturgill

Kenneth Lee Sturgill, 80, of Mt. Juliet, formerly of Scott County, VA, passed away (Saturday March 22, 2014) at Alive Hospice cared for by his wife and daughters. Born at home in Clinchport, VA, he attended Rye Cove High School. He worked as a pressman, his first job was at Kingsport Press. Most recently, Kenneth retired from The Tennessean newspaper in Nashville, Tenn. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Walter Sturgill and Lillie (Barrett) Sturgill; his brothers and sisters, Willie Lawson (Raymond), James Sturgill (Ruth), Robert Sturgill (Betty/Jackie), and Lucille Stewart (Olen). He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carolyn (Redwine) Sturgill; two daughters, Leanna Sturgill Harkess and husband John and Karen Sturgill Larson; six grandchildren, Kimberly Harkess Pavlu and husband Chris, Jonathan Harkess, Benjamin Harkess, Landon Larson and wife Leigh, Brian Larson, and John Larson and wife Leslie; twelve great grandchildren; sister, Nancy Richards and husband Jimmy; as well as several nieces and nephews; and his special feline friend, Tommy. The family will receive friends from 12 till 3pm Wednesday (March 26, 2014) at Scott County Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 3:30pm at Holston View Cemetery with Bro.
