Obituary of Vastine Jones Williams

Gate City - Vastine Jones Williams, 89, of Gate City (Manville Road), passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2014 at her residence following declining health. She was a lifelong resident of Scott County and retired from the Scott County School System after 22 and ½ years service in the cafeteria at Shoemaker Elementary. She loved her family dearly. Vastine was a member of Weber City First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Kyle Lester Williams; son, Terry Lester Williams; parents, William Elbert and Myrtle Quillen Jones; sister, Mary Louella Jones; brother, Hubert Jones. Vastine is survived by her daughter, Kathy Williams Rhoton and husband Larry of Kingsport; daughter-in-law, Delores Johnson of Gate City; brothers, Roy Lee Jones and wife Bernice of Kingsport and William E. "Buck" Jones and wife Jewel of Gate City (Alley Valley community); grandson, Rev. Jason Brian Williams and wife Tammy of Paducah, KY; step-granddaughter, Hollie Rhoton Brooks and husband Tommy of Rogersville; great-grandchildren, Hannah Kathryn Williams, Joshua Andrew Williams, Sarah Elizabeth Williams, Abigail Grace Williams, Caleb Absher Williams and Daniel Stephen Williams; step-great grandchildren, Henry Thomas Brooks and Manning Wilson Brooks; Several nieces, nephews and many friends. The family will receive friends from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City, VA. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Dean Smith, Rev. Jeff DeBoard and Rev. Jason Williams officiating. Music will be provided by Jiggs and Flo Willis and Andrea Shephard. Burial will follow in Holston View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gerald Templeton, Roger Templeton, Clay Pendleton, Randy Bates, Rick Jones, Randall Jones and Mark Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Randall Shelton, David Hill, James Brotherton, Matthew Brotherton, Tommy Brooks, Maurice Williams, Wayne Sanders, Bart Shelton, Brad Shelton and Mickey Shelton. The family would like to thank the nurses with Intrepid Healthcare Services for the care given to Mom. Many thanks to friends, neighbors and relatives for the phone calls and love you have shown to Mom over the years. Her life was fuller because of you.
