Obituary of Charlene Nan Jennings

Charlene Nan (Carroll) Jennings, 61, of the Bloomingdale Community, went to be with the Lord late Wednesday night (January 22, 2014) at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer. She was a lifelong resident of Kingsport having lived in Bloomingdale the majority of her life. She worked with Olan Mills and finished her lifelong love of working with children at the Play Center Nursery. Mrs. Jennings was a member of First Assembly of God for over 50 years where she was active in the choir. She truly raised her family with the love of Christ. The most important things in her life was to spend time with her kids and grandchildren along with being an avid gardener working in her flowers. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Fredrick Jennings in 2010; her parents, Charles and Nannie Chapman Carroll; a brother, Troy D. Carroll. Charlene Jennings is survived by her children, James T. Jennings, Martha Lynn Lawson, Laura Ann Hatt, Tammy R. Flanagan, Samuel M. Jennings, and Mary E. Jennings; grandchildren of the home, Shaundel Keagan Jennings, Kealyan Lawson, Ariel Winter Sloan, Austin Overbay, Montana Elisabeth Ricard; 9 granchildren and a great granddaughter; her loving sister, Pat Mullins and husband, John; a brother, Roy Lincoln Carroll and wife, Carolyn; brother-in-law, James Kaylor; special nieces, Patty Hale and Linda Hobbs; special nephews, George McDavid and Jack McDavid; a special family friend, R.L. Jennings. She is also leaving behind many lifelong friends, Carol Hicks, Betty Haynes, Ada Mae Quillen, Daisy Carroll, Mona Kelley, Pat Galloway, Gaynell Smith, Linda Brandon, Rita Stidham, Harold Corn, John Kerney, along with many friends at Play Center Nursery. (PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO THE WEATHER THE TIMES HAVE CHANGED) Calling hours will be held on Sunday (January 26, 2013) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home or friends may also call anytime at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday (January 26, 2014) at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Harold Corn and Pastor Tony Marshall, officiating. Music will be provided by the Lovely Quartet. A graveside service will be held on Monday (January 27, 2014) at 11:30 a.m. at the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Roy Carroll, Janes Jennings, Sam Jennings, Kealyan Lawson, John Mullins, and Daniel Flanagan serving as pallbearers. Alexander Hatt will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family would like to give a special thank-you to the staff at Indian Path Medical Center, especially Dr. Campbell, her nurses, Loretta and Rhonda, and her case worker, Gina. Also, a special thanks to Amedysis Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests to make memorial contributions in her honor to the funeral home.
