Obituary of David Sweeney

David Curtis Sweeney, 80, went to his heavenly home, Saturday December 14, 2013 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born to the late Curtis and Margie Sweeney on November 22, 1933. In his younger years, he was a gifted auto mechanic, where he worked for Harold DeSpain and later was the service manager for Daugherty Bros. Chevrolet. After several years of teaching auto mechanic at Scott County Vocational School, he accepted a position with the Jeep Corporation. He later retired as national service training director with the Chrysler Corporation in 1989. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Denver Sweeney and Decial Sweeney and one great grandson, Thomas David Harrison. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Frances Sweeney; two loving daughters, Dava Sweeney of Bristol and Lesa Foster and husband Albert, Vicksburg, Mississippi; one sister, Daphene Simpson and husband Conley, Kingsport; one brother, Dallas Sweeney and wife Sue, Grayson, Ky; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 till 7pm Tuesday December 17th, 2013 at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 7pm with Rev. Scott Tipton officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 11am Wednesday at Holston View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Jones, R.C. Sykes, Rex Miller, Gerald Roller, Vernon Roller and Dallas Sweeney. Honorary pallbearers are Zach Heath, Gerald Edwards, Kenneth Edwards, Paul Ingram, Bobby Orr and Freddy Kelly. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the many friends and neighbors who were so helpful and supportive during this difficult time and to the nursing staff of Bristol Regional Medical Center and the the staff of National Healthcare Corporation for their many kindnesses during Mr. Sweeney's illness.
