Obituary of William Cartmel

William "Bill" Cartmel, 77, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday afternoon, December11, 2013 at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Thayer, Missouri, grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas and had lived in Kingsport most of his life. Mr. Cartmel served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from Indian Path Hospital and Medical Center as Director of Plant Operations in 1996 after 22 years of service. He was a member of Fordtown Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, was a member Kingsport Amateur Radio Club, Past President of the Kingsport Area Safety Council, and Past President of the Tennessee Hospital Engineers Association. Bill loved the amateur radio and enjoyed traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Velma Martin Cartmel and sisters, Kathleen Knight and JoAnn Stanley. Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Geneva Bowser Cartmel, of the home; son, Derwin Cartmel and wife, Lisa, of Kingsport; grandchildren, Isaac Andrew Cartmel and Rachael Michele Cartmel; one sister, Fannie Lou Lewis of Jacksonville, Florida and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm Monday, December 16, 2013 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga St., Kingsport. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bryan Moore officiating. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted at 1:00 pm Tuesday at the Pond Cemetery by the American Legion Post #3/265. Pallbearers will be Deacons and friends of Fordtown Baptist Church. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 pm. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Pond Cemetery Fund, C/O Jo Wexler, 1345 Lebanon Rd. Kingsport, TN 37663.
