Obituary of Elzoria Virginia Hickam

Hiltons - Elzoria Virginia Sanders Hickam, 91 of Hiltons, peacefully departed this life on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Indian Path Medical Center following a brief illness. A beloved mother, sister, aunt and friend, she was surrounded by her daughter as she passed. Elzoria was born to Oliver Burl and Maude McNutt Sanders on April 17, 1922 in Blackwood, Virginia. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling, cooking, crafting, photography, researching her family genealogy, rummaging and spending time with those she loved. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 33 years, Glen Hickam; brother, Roy Sanders; sister, Elsie Sorah; nephew, Grady Sorah; brother-in-law, Junior Sorah; and sister-in-law, Ann Sanders. Elzoria is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anna Belle and Robert Tittsworth of Knoxville; brother, Edward Sanders of Hiltons; 17 nieces and nephews; 23 great-nieces and nephews; 17 great-great nieces and nephews; 4 great-great-great nieces and nephews; a host of other friends, family and neighbors in Florida, Indiana, Tennessee and Virginia. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City, VA. Friends may also call anytime at the residence. A funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paul Blessing officiating. Music will be provided by Dale Jett and Hello Stranger. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Elzoria's nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and long-time neighbors. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Indian Path Medical Center and the nurses on ICU/4th floor for the love and care shown to Elzoria and family.
