Obituary of James Napier

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1 James (Jim) Edward Napier, 78, 514 Union Street, Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Wellmont Hospice House after a battle with cancer. Born January 27, 1935, he was the fourth of 10 children born to the late Bill and Sarah Napier of Hiltons, VA. James graduated from Hiltons High School and served 4 years in the U.S Air Force, stationed in England. He retired from Holston Defense in 1991 after 27 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Sam Smith and Tina Cross of Hiltons, VA; father in law and mother in law, Lawton and Mary Estelle Quillen of Midway, VA; sister, Sandra Odum of Kingsport, brothers in law, Carl Oliver of Rogersville, Garnie Kilgore of Kingsport and Ray Dolen of Weber City, VA; sister in law, Colleen Quillen Kilgore of Kingsport and nephew, Anthony Napier of Kingsport. He is survived by the love his life and wife of 53 years, Shirley Quillen Napier of the home; three loving children of whom he was so proud, son Randy Napier and wife, Melissa of Mt. Carmel, two daughters, Sharon Kay Hammonds and husband, Wayne and Lori Ann Napier and fiancé, Chris Falardeau both of Kingsport; two step-grandchildren, Josh Vaughn of Kingsport and Heather Anderson of Mt. Carmel and one step-great granddaughter, Nova Vaughn. He was also "Daddy Jim" to the many children Shirley took care of in their home. Also surviving are five brothers, Billy Napier and wife, Rose, Willis Napier and wife, Janette, Raymond Napier, Danny Napier all of Kingsport and Lonnie Gene Napier of Hiltons, VA; three sisters, Georgia Oliver of Rogersville, Beulah Napier and Priscilla Good both of Kingsport; brothers-in-law, Larry Odum of Kingsport, Bayard Good of Hiltons, VA, Paul Quillen and wife Bobbie Jo, and Mac Quillen and wife Norma of Kingsport; J. C. Quillen and wife Monnie Belle of Weber City; sister-in- law, Helen Quillen Dolen of Weber City along with many special nephews and special nieces. The family will receive friends from 12 noon - 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Scott County Funeral Home 2060 Hwy US 23N, Weber City, VA or friends may also call anytime at the residence. A Celebration of Life Service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. with a special Eulogy given by Starlette Hicks and a reading of Scripture by Willis Napier. Music will be provided by One Lost Sheep. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Garden of Resurrection, conducted by the American Legion Post 3/265. Pallbearers will be Gary Oliver, Gregory Oliver, Brad Shaffer, Robin Kilgore, Mark Kilgore, Martin Kilgore and Chris Falardeau. Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home of Weber City is serving the family of James Napier.
