Obituary of Gary Edward Dykes

Gary Edward Dykes, 63, passed away at home on Friday night, October 18, 2013 after a period of declining health. Gary was a lifelong Kingsport resident and a graduate from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1969. He retired from Eastman Chemical Co. after 28 years of service working in Power and Services Div. He loved being at the lake on his pontoon, watching NASCAR racing on TV and attending D-B's football Games. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Mary Dykes in 2009 Surviving are his daughter, Ashlee Brice & husband Sentel; two granddaughters, Zari and Mela; brother, Rollin & wife Connie; sister, Gail Dykes Kerns & husband Joie; loving nephews, Chris Dykes, Joie Todd Kerns, Dustin Kerns and Brenden Dykes; nieces, Lauren Dykes and Emory Kerns; lifelong friend, Ronnie Franklin; along with his two complete devoted puppies, Dixi and Gucci. The family would like to thank everyone for their friendship and visits during Gary's illness. We would like to extend our gratitude and many thanks to the staff of Amedisys Hospice for their wonderful care and concern for Gary and the kindness shown to his family during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, his request is that any memorial contribution by made to Pleasant View Baptist Church, 2101 Stadium Drive, Kingpost, TN 37664 As in life Gary was a very giving person, he has donated his body to ETSU Quillen College of Medicine with the hope that the knowledge gained from research will help someone else.
