Obituary of Ruby Laura Johnson

Ruby Laura Jarvis Johnson, 96 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 16, 2013 at the home of her daughter in Bristol, TN after a brief illness. Ruby was born in Hancock County, lived in Kingsport most of her life until she became ill and moved in with her daughter in Bristol, TN. She retired from J.P. Stevens Co. after over 30 years of service. Ruby was a member of Calvary Baptist Church (Pine Street), Kingsport. She was the last surviving sibling of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie William Johnson; son Stanley Mitchell Johnson; parents, Mack Henry and Theadocia Stapleton Jarvis; brothers and sisters, John Daniel Jarvis, Joseph R. Jarvis; William D. Jarvis, Mary Magdalene Ward, Charlie Eldridge Jarvis, Freda Jarvis and Odell Jarvis. She is survived by her children, Howard William Johnson and wife Charlotte of Blountville, Freda Nadine Watson of Bristol, TN, Larry Ronald Johnson and wife Teresa of Kingsport and Barbara Ann Fetzer and husband Kirby of Kingsport; seven grandchildren; Paige Johnson Brooks, Natalie Johnson, Adam Johnson, Mike Watson, David Watson, Jennifer Fetzer Kontos and Sarah Fetzer Hulsey; eleven great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Marie Johnson; sisters-in-law, Mildred Jarvis of Kingsport and Patsy Jarvis of Flint, MI; along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm on Tuesday August 20, 2013 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport. A service will be held at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Richard Harris and Rev. Tiger Brooks officiating. Music will be provided by Paige Johnson Brooks. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Memorial and Honors Program, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast TN, 127 Dillon Court, Gray, TN 37615. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Johnson family.
