Obituary of Robert Salyer

ROBERT (JACK) SALYER Church Hill- Robert (Jack) Salyer, 78, of Church Hill went to be with the Lord on Saturday night (August 3, 2013) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born in Scott County, Virginia and had spent the majority of his life in Church Hill. Jack worked early in his life at Allandale Farms and went on to retire from AFG after 30 years of service. His favorite past time for 40 years was participating in turkey shoots. He was also an avid gardener. Mr. Salyer was a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1968 where he served as Deacon. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eliza Ellen Salyer; a sister, Edna Roseberry; brothers, Bobby Joe Salyer and Johnny Salyer; his uncle, Willie (Bill) Salyer; special cousin, Fred Salyer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Banner and Nellie Skeen. Robert Salyer is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Loretta Skeen Salyer; his children, Anita Lawson and husband, Steve, Gary Salyer and wife, Cheri, Teresa Jarrett and husband, Bobby, Scott Salyer; five grandchildren, Travis Lawson, Tancy Salyer Spina and husband, Jason, Robbie Salyer and wife, Rhonda, Meghan Salyer, and Miranda Salyer; three great grandchildren, Kyle Lawson, Parker Salyer, and Ava Boggs; his brothers, Buford Salyer, Harold Salyer, and Jimmy Salyer along with several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday (August 6, 2013) from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill or friends may also call anytime at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ray Bledsoe, Rev. Wayne Gilliam and Pastor Elser Bailey officiating. A graveside service will be on Wednesday (August 7, 2013) at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Gary Salyer, Scott Salyer, Robbie Salyer, Darrell Salyer, Travis Lawson, and Bobby Jarrett serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Salyer, Jason Salyer, Steve Lawson, Harold Salyer, Buford Salyer, Ronnie Salyer, and Larry Skeen. Family and friends attending the graveside service are to meet at the funeral at 1:15 p.m. to go in procession. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill is serving the Salyer family.
