Obituary of Betty Monroe

Betty Bradshaw Monroe, 84, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord early Thursday morning, July 11, 2013 at Indian Path Medical Center after a period of declining health. Betty was born September 30, 1928 to the late Harvey and Myrtle Bellamy Bradshaw. She worked at Tennessee Eastman in the late 1940's; then after raising her son, she worked at the Hartyl Company for several years. Betty was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother and was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church. She will by dearly missed and never forgotten. She was married to the late Alvin E. "Gene" Monroe for 69 ½ years. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Alvin L. Monroe, Jr. and a brother, Gene Bellamy. Surviving are her son, Alvin L. Monroe, Sr.; granddaughter, Betsy Monroe; six grandchildren and two brothers-in-law, Darrell Monroe and wife Isabella and Val Monroe and wife Mary. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:30 pm Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga St., Kingsport, TN. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ray Amos, Sr. officiating. An entombment committal service will be held at Oak Hill I Mausoleum, Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Memorial Donations may be made to Kingsley United Methodist Church, 2828 Bloomingdale Pike, Kingsport, TN 37660.
