Obituary of Gale Holt

Gale Ray Holt, 85 of Carters Valley went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, June 28, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Hancock County (Sneedville) but had lived in Surgoinsville most of his life. He had retired from AFG (Greenland) in the Float Line after 23 years of service. He was a devoted Farmer for many years along with being an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing. Gale attended Lewis Lane Central Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Kate Holt in March of 2001; his parents, Wilson (Doc) and Samantha Dalton Holt; along with five brothers and five sisters. Survivors include his two daughters, Mrs. Bobby (Retha) Bledsoe, Mrs. Robert (Rita) DeBord; his son, Darrell R. Holt, all of Surgoinsville; four grandchildren, Carley R. Bledsoe & wife Teresa, Jason Holt, Jessica Mullins and husband, Dwayne and Joseph DeBord; four great-grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Katelyn Bledsoe, Maryssa Mullins, Hudson Mullins, and Steven Clifton; a great-great granddaughter, Faith Clifton; four sisters-in-law, Grace Johnson, Thelma Calton, Hazel Barton, Maude Christian; his best friend, Ken Wood along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4- 7 pm on Monday, July 1, 2013 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 1115 Hwy 11W, Church Hill or anytime at the residence of the daughter, Retha Bledsoe. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm in the chapel with Rev. Kenny Hammonds, Pastor Andy Sensabaugh, and Rev. Billy Linkous, officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens, Rogersville, TN. Pallbearers will be Carley Bledsoe, Jason Holt, Joseph DeBord, Dwayne Mullins, Phillip Carr, and Clay Lamb. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Wood, Tommy Gilreath, Joe Greer, Katelyn Bledsoe, Jessica Mullins and Steven Clifton. Those attending are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10 am to go in procession. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Lewis Lane Central Baptist Church, 712 Lewis Lane, Church Hill, TN 37642. A special thank-you goes out to the nurses with Amedisys Hospice and to all of his family and friends for the special care given to Gale Holt.
