Obituary of Zane Parks
Zane E. Parks of the Big Moccasin Community joined his Heavenly Father and his loving wife early Thursday morning (June 27, 2013) following several months of declining health.
He served in the 9th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during WW II and retired from Eastman Kodak Company after 37 years of service. His enjoyment of farming and raising Katahdin sheep fulfilled his remaining healthy years. He faithfully attended Greenwood Chapel Church for many years.
In addition to his wife, Mae Rasnick Parks, he was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Agnes Pennington Parks; his father, Charlie N. Parks; step-mother, Annie Fugate Parks; one sister, Margaret Cornett and a brother, William (Bill) Parks.
He is survived by two daughters, Jane (Larry) Winkle of Kingsport and Mary (Ray) Rossie of Blountville; one son, Larry (Becky) Parks of Johnson City; five grandchildren, Amy Dittle, April (Mike) Davis, Aaron Winkle, Kellee (Brian) Asher and Gracie Rossie; two step-grandchildren, Meaghan (Josh) Deyton, Jesse (Kelley) Lilly; eight great grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; one sister, Georgia Cox, one brother, Robert R. (Phyllis) Parks; one brother-in-law, Don Cornett; sister-in-law, Vivian Redwine; brother-in-law, Doyle (Linda) Rasnick and his dearly loved Welsh Corgi, Daisy Mae.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Scott County Funeral Home, 2060 Hwy 23N, Weber City or anytime at Mr. Parks' home.
A funeral service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Lelbert Thornburg and Rev. Larry Winkle, officiating. Music will be provided by The Bible Way Trio.
Burial will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Virginia. Those attending are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 pm to go in procession. Pallbearers will be Aaron Winkle, Mike Davis, Brian Asher, John Redwine, David Redwine, and Claude Lane. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Robert R. Parks, Don Cornett, Jim Francisco, Bill McConnell, Tony Hagy, and Phil Rasnick.
The family wishes to express deep appreciation to his caregivers, Kay Dockery, Margie Smith, Mary Wells and Caris Hospice of Johnson City for the special care of Zane Parks.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 950 W. St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105
