Obituary of Wilma Colleen Kilgore

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away". Revelation 21:4 Wilma Colleen Quillen Kilgore, 81, of 1038 Wood Eden Drive, Bloomington Heights Community, went to be with the Lord suddenly on Sunday morning (September 16, 2012) with no symptoms beforehand, of a blood clot that caused lung and heart failure. Colleen was born on April 4, 1931 in Nickelsville, VA and grew up in Midway Community in Gate City, VA. She graduated from Midway High School in 1949. She worked at Ben Franklin Store in Gate City and Rental Uniform in Kingsport before she married and was a homemaker all of her married life and did some babysitting also. She was known by many kids, beginning with her niece, Debbie Quillen, as "Chee-Chee". She was a loving wife and mother, like the scriptures talk about in Proverbs 31. Colleen was a Christian and attended Kingsport Church of Christ, the place of her baptism, when she was able to go with her sons. She also visited Culbertsons Chapel United Methodist Church in Nickelsville and Community United Methodist Church in Kingsport, in the past. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Garnie Merle Kilgore in 2005; her parents, Lawton W Quillen and Mary Estelle Williams Quillen; a toddler sister, Anna Ruth Quillen; brother-in-law, Charles Ray Dolen, Sr.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry David (K) Kilgore and Maude Lillie Wampler Kilgore; toddler brother-in-law, Maynard Clyde Kilgore, nephew, Michael Scott Kilgore; great nephew, Brady William Singleton; sisters-in-law, Clarice Olene Kilgore Singleton and husband, Toy, Alba Akron Kilgore Jones; brothers-in-law, Barnie Earl Kilgore and Emory Lee Kilgore and wife, Edith. Colleen Kilgore is survived by her son, Charles Robin Kilgore, (of the home) twin sons, Mark Anthony Kilgore (Gray, TN) and Martin Allen Kilgore (of the home); brothers, J C Quillen and wife, Monnie Belle (Weber City, VA), Paul James Quillen and wife, Bobbie Jo (Kingsport, TN), Mac Quillen and wife, Norma (Kingsport, TN); sisters, Shirley Napier and husband, Jim (Kingsport, TN), Helen Dolen (Weber City, VA); brother-in-law, Alden Jones (Baileyton, TN); sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kilgore, Helen Graham (both of Nickelsville, VA); eight nephews; eight nieces; five great-nephews; eleven great nieces, one great-great nephew and two great-great nieces. Calling hours will be held on Thursday (September 20, 2012) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home or friends may also call anytime at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday (September 21, 2012) at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Evangelist Tom Kinzel and Rev. Charles Kilbourne officiating. Music will be provided by Doris Anne Jonas and Billy Gillespie. A graveside service will follow the funeral on Friday (September 21, 2012) at Mount Pleasant Cemetery (Midway Community) with nephews and friends serving as pallbearers. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help with funeral expenses. A special thank-you goes out to the EMT Personnel, along with our next-door neighbor Mike DuVall, a former EMT, and Dr. Greg Marcum and staff, including nurses Steven, and James, at the Holston Valley Medical Center Emergency Room, who attempted to revive Mom after her collapse at home. Thank you God, for taking Mom home so gently "…Thy gentleness hath made me great" (Psalm 18:35). Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Kilgore family.
