Obituary of Mary Helen Carter

Mary Helen Spivey Carter, 76, of Kingsport, went peacefully in her sleep to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ late Wednesday night (August 5, 2015) after a declining period of health surrounded by a host of precious family and friends. Mary Helen was born on February 1, 1939 in Surgoinsville, TN to the late Dewey and Lillian Marie (Williams) Spivey. Mrs. Carter was of the Apostolic faith and attended her church as she was able to. She dearly loved her Pastor, Brother Greg Street and his wife, Sister Sharon like her own family. Mama was grateful to the Lord for her special friend and prayer partner, Sister Clara Smith and her loving friend, Sharon Cituk. n addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Leonard Carter; a dear brother, Bob Spivey; cherished sister, Jean Mullins and a precious infant granddaughter, Jasmine Nicole McClellan. Mary Helen Carter is survived by her four children, Terry James McClellan (Sherry), Lisa Mariellen Carter-Newland (Tim), Robert (Bobby) William Carter (Tammie), and Theresa Ann (Tee Tee) Potter (Jay); grandchildren, Brandon Bishop, Ashley McClellan, Jacklyn McClellan, Brittany Carter, Autumn Loggans, Justin Carter. She was blessed with several great-grandchildren and lovingly doted upon them every chance she had. Also, survived by Elizabeth Ellen Smith (Bill) who was one of the greatest joys of her life and was her twin sister, an additional sister, Patsy Brannon; special sister-in-law, Linda Spivey; brothers, Bill (Sue), Curtis (Mary), and Harlan (Francis) Spivey along with a host of special nieces and nephews. A very special thank-you goes out to the Doctors and nurses at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center and all the Wilcox Hall W3 "Angels" who gave such skilled and loving care to her when she needed them the most. Calling hours for Mrs. Carter will be held on Sunday (August 9, 2015) at Apostolic Gospel Church from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. or friends may also call anytime at her residence. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday (August 9, 2015) at 7 p.m. at Apostolic Gospel Church with Pastor Greg Street, officiating. Music will be provided by Robin Isley, Mike Boggs, Justin Carter, and Alex Amos. A graveside service will be conducted on Monday (August 10, 2015) at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Robert W. Carter, Justin Carter, Brandon Bishop, Jay Potter, and Tim Newland serving as pallbearers. Family and friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15a.m. to go in procession. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry McClellan and Earl (Bear) Elliott. Her request was that in lieu of flowers, donations to be made in her memory to the building fund at Apostolic Gospel Church, 1780 Granby Road, Kingsport, TN 37660. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Carter family.
