Tim, Jane and family,
I regret that I will not be able to attend the memorial service for Uncle Kelles. Please know I am thinking about you and sending lots of love and prayers to you all!
Losing a family member is not easy. There are so many memories I have growing up in a close knit family like theTates, with grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and lots of cousins! I remember the reunions when Grandma and Grandpa Tate were still alive. I always looked forward to seeing everyone.
I remember Kelles playing chess at many of those. I don't think anyone who played against him beat him. I can remember him coming to over the house on Stuffle St. to play games of chess with my dad. Kelles did pass some of his chess magazines on to my youngest son, Shane, who loves playing chess and has a hard time finding a worthy opponent. I wish Shane could have played chess with Kelles!
When it was time for me to get a car, Uncle Kelles was working at Dal and Bob's Autos, and he sold me my first and favorite car (1974 toyota celica). I used that car during my junior and senior years at UTK. It even made the trip when I moved to Columbus, GA back in 1986! When I got my 2nd car, I didn't want to trade in the first one, so I passed my toyota on to my brother, Robert!
I also have fond memories of Kelles enjoying my mom's deviled eggs. The last Tate reunion I got to attend, I made some using mom's recipe, and I had to make sure Kelles got some of them. He wanted two on a hotdog bun (his favorite way to eat them).
About two years ago, Carroll and I got to visit with Kelles and Paul and have dinner with them. We all enjoyed reminiscing about the good ole days!
I love you all!
