Obituary of Clara Marie Smith

Clara Smith, age 76, of Gate City, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 2, 2015 peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was a member of Willow Chapel Primitive Baptist Church where her husband, Elder Carl Smith pastored for 30+ years. She proudly worked as a cashier at Food City for over 25 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and canning, singing, praying and studying God's word. Most of all she was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She was a true and faithful companion to her husband cherishing his life as a minister. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Carl Smith; her parents, Joe and Georgie Kinsler; and a sister, Loretta Norton. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Byrd and husband Jeffery; sons, Colon Smith and wife Karen, Allen Smith and wife LaDonna and Tony Smith and wife Melissa; grandchildren, Natasha Ketron and husband Wade, Jarrad Byrd and wife Tiffany, Cara Smith, Jeremy "Pookie" Byrd, Derrick Smith, Ashley Byrd, Chelsie Smith, Chasity Smith and Cory Smith; great-grandchildren, Cody Ketron, Gracie Ketron, Haiden Byrd, Jaycee Byrd and Mason Byrd; 2 brothers, Jeter Kinsler and Don Kinsler; several nieces, nephews, her church family and host of neighbors and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City or anytime at Ms. Smith's residence. Funeral services will follow with Elder Mickey Gibson, Elder Scott Tipton and Elder Oscar Irvin officiating. Music will be provided by the members of Willow Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Holston View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clara's grandsons, Jarrad Byrd, Pookie Byrd, Derrick Smith and Cory Smith along with Cody Ketron, Wade Ketron, Robert Price, Benny Vermillion and Mitch Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Maynard, Billy Jack Johnson and the Men of Willow Chapel Church. Carter Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is proudly serving the Smith family.
