Obituary of Elizabeth Odell Garretson

ELIZABETH ODELL GARRETSON Church Hill- Elizabeth Odell Garretson, 83, of Church Hill, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday (January 1, 2015) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer 's disease. She was born in Rogersville, TN and had lived the majority of her life in Hawkins County. Elizabeth retired from Sears after 25 years of service from the catalog department. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Church Hill where she dearly loved her church family whom never forgot her and still sent cards up until her death even though she was not able to be with them for many years. Her greatest attribute was her kind loving spirit. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, George L. Garretson; parents, Patrick and Bessie Mae (Trent) Burton; brother,-in-law, Ed Young. Elizabeth Garretson is survived by her loving son, Garry Garretson and wife, Pam; a "special son", Darrell Cradic; sister, Jean Young; brother, Raymond Burton and wife, Annette; grandchildren, Kelli Garretson, Brett Garretson, Laurie Nelson and husband, Chris, Scott Hammerbacher and wife, Ashley; great grandchildren, Olivia, Raef, Amelia, Caroline, Maddie, and Merrick. Calling hours will be held on Monday (January 5, 2015) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill or friends may also call anytime at the residence of the son, Garry. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday (January 5, 2015) at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Gary Gerhardt, officiating. A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday (January 6, 2015) at 1 p.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens with Brett Garretson, Scott Hammerbacher, Greg Calhoun, Chris Burton, Darrell Cradic, Clayton Cradic, Roger Maness, and David Parker serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Burton, Fred Calhoun, Lynn Stout, Bill Johnson, Ralph Trent, David Burton, Link Jarvis and David Calhoun. Family and friends attending the graveside are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. A special thank-you goes out to Dr. Kevin Misischia for his thoughtful care throughout the years. Also, a special thanks for the caretakers, Mattie Stout and Brett Garretson along with Dr. Vaughn and the staff at Wellmont Holston Valley ER.
