Obituary of Emma Ruth Wagner Yokum

Emma Ruth Wagner Yokum, age 83, of Johnson City, went peacefully home to meet her Lord and loved ones on December 2, 2014. She was born December 30, 1930 in Hawkins County, Emma was a graduate of Surgoinsville High School. She had also completed courses in nursing at Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Johnson City and Duke University School of Anesthesia in Durham, NC. She retired, after 40 years of service from Mountain Home Veteran's Hospital in Johnson City, TN as an Anesthetist nurse. Emma enjoyed traveling, gardening, arts and crafts. She and her husband, Bud, loved spending time together with their Doberman show dogs, snow skiing and entertaining friends and family. She was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene "Bud" Yokum; parents, Charles and Jodie Wagner; siblings, Louise Culbertson, Conner Wagner, Margaret Partin and husband, Bill, Willie Rakestraw, Bill Wagner and wife, Mary, and Ina Cox and husband, Ray. She is survived by her sister, Opal Kirkpatrick and husband, Bill; niece, Melba Urbanek; nephews, Onzie Culbertson, Brett Wagner, Eric Wagner, Charles Rakestraw, Michael Rakestraw, Jack Partin, Rick Wagner and Kim Kirkpatrick; sister-in-law, Virginia Wagner; brothers-in-law, Scott Culbertson and Reese Rakestraw. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Steadman Hill, Asbury Health Care and special nephew, Onzie Culbertson and wife, Donna, for their kind acts and loving care during Emma's time of declining health. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm -1:00 pm on Friday, December 5, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. Graveside services will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Gardens in Johnson City, TN. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association located at 207 N Boone St, Johnson City, TN 37604.
