Obituary of James Lilburn Penson

James Lilburn Penson, age 81, of Surgoinsville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport. He attended Oak Dale Central Baptist Church in Surgoinsville. He was a proud Veteran of the US Army having served his country in the Korean War. He was a talented artist who left his family several beautiful items to remember him by. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather having left behind a legacy of how an upright Christian man ought to live and provide for his family through the good times and the hard times. He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jan Penson; sons, Jim Penson (Joyce) and Josh Penson (Shelley); grandchildren, Skylar Penson, Saige Penson, Hannah Penson, Hope and Haley Stogsdill, Logan James, Cory Smith and Whitney Schnelle; life-long close friends, Henry and Marlyn Hunt; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Military services and funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. Interment will follow at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA.
