Obituary of Gladys Meade

Gate City- Gladys Meade, 96, of Gate City, passed away early Tuesday morning (July 29, 2014) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Charleston, West Virginia and had resided the majority of her life in Scott County, VA. She was a wonderful homemaker and especially a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She volunteered for many years at the exchange place making dolls. Gladys was very active with the Red Hat Society. She attended Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry (Windy) Meade along with several brothers and sisters. Gladys Meade is survived by her children, Raymond Meade and wife Ann, Jerry (Swannie) Hall and wife Nancy, Nancy Clipse and husband Cloyd, Rodney Meade and wife Paula; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday (July 31, 2014) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport or friends may also call anytime at the residence of the daughter, Nancy Clipse. A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday (July 31, 2014) at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Greg Needham officiating. A graveside service will be conducted on Friday (August 1, 2014) at 11 a.m. at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am.
