I loved Nancy! What a breath of fresh air she brought to everything she did. I especially loved that she got so involved with Camp Buffalo Mountain, teaching dancing and working to put quilts on the conference center beds. She loved her family and worked tirelessly to support Stokie. Nancy's energy and love of life are an inspiration!

I don't believe their would be enough space on this page for me to describe my love for Nancy Collins. She truly filled heart with great joy, and always managed to bring a smile, and at times crack a joke. The stories are many, that I could not possibly tell them all. My favorite memory was the first year the last week of my first summer on staff at Buffalo Mountain Camp, and after being Nancy's DJ for the whole entire summer, and after getting to know her, which did not take long at all, she adopted me as her camp grandson. We joked about that title at first, but as summers continued to go by, I began to appreciate that title more and more. During the winter, right before Christmas, I would make my annual phone call to Nancy, and we would talk for what seemed like forever. While at annual conference, I would pull up a chair and sit with her at the Harrell Center during my breaks, and would talk about whatever was on our minds. That title of being her camp grandson meant so much to me, especially during camp season, because when I was blue, she would cheer me up, when I was discouraged, she encouraged me to remain strong. You could say that one reason I kept coming back to camp, was because of Nancy. Our last summer as a staff, before the flood, we gathered at Allison Lodge for our closing time together as a staff. The leadership staff was handing out awards (aka plates) to give to the staff, and each one had its own meaning. I was honored to receive what I thought was the best award, and that award was "Most loved by Nancy." I still have that plate, and will cherish it forever. She was a rockstar in her own way at BMC, and I got the honor of escorting her to her rightful place, in front of the microphone, and from their we would boogy.
Nancy was so good to me, and so many others. She will be missed by many, but it will be those people who will carry on her legacy, a legacy that was all about sharing the wondrous story of God's amazing love. What a life well lived!
To the family, I express my deepest sympathy, and I too hurt, because this was a tremendous loss. But I also celebrate, because I know there is dancing in heaven, and I know Nancy is at the microphone.
I appologize to you all that I couldn't attend Nancy's memorial service. I wish I could have been there.
May God's peace and comfort be with each and every one of you as you continue to say goodbye....for now.
Thanks for sharing Nancy with all of us. She truly is an angel, and she will always have a special place in my heart.
Grace and Peace,
Thomas Hammontree <><

Mary, I am so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed Nancy so much when you would bring her instead of taking the appointment yourself. She was such a sweet Christian lady. You are in my prayers.

One of the best parts about going to Buffalo Mountain Camp when I was growing up was Dancing with Nancy. She had such a spark and was full of life. I have been blessed to see her throughout the years at UMW events, when I sent my own kids to camp, and during our church's Missions Celebration while she served in the SERV store. She had a heart for reaching out to others and bringing joy. It was an honor to have known her.

My "big Sister" Nancy. I have known Nancy since I was about 10 years old - that's 62 years ago! She is probably part of the reason I went into Physical Education - because she did. I have worked with Nancy for eons in SERRV and traveled to Junaluska at least three times a year to 'unpack, sell, and repack' SERRV. It was always so much fun to hear her play old hymns on the piano and all of us harmonize to the hymns after we had worked all day. I will miss going over and taking her to lunch, especially Riverfront which seemed to be one of her favorites. Her Mom and Dad made an everlasting impression on my life as a very young girl. To know all three of them was to Love them. I will miss you, Nancy, I love you and will see you some day!!! Sara

Nancy was such a precious friend. I shall never forget our trip to Florida to UMW Assembly. She did so much for the United Methodist Church organization. To know Nancy was to love her.
