Obituary of Margaret Johnson Justis
MARGARET JOHNSON JUSTIS
Kingsport - Margaret Johnson Justis, 89, of Kingsport, went to her Heavenly Home on Sunday (May 11, 2014) at Preston Place Suites following a brief illness.
She was born in Hawkins County and lived the majority of her life in Kingsport and the Fall Branch area. She retired in 1986 from Eastman Kodak, where she worked in food services for 42 years. Margaret was a very active long-time member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church, where for many years she sang in the choir and provided homemade baked goods for fundraisers. She enjoyed cooking and volunteered with Meals on Wheels for more than 20 years. She also loved growing flowers and vegetables. She was such a caring person that she was truly loved by everyone who knew her and always seemed to have friends wherever she went.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Justis; parents, Fred Johnson and Flora Bailey Johnson; brother, J. Fred Johnson; sister, Beulah Johnson Rhea; and sister-in-law, Shirley Dobbs Johnson.
Surviving are her step-daughters, Joyce Justis Choate and husband, Raleigh (Chattanooga, TN); Mary-Margaret Justis (Abingdon, VA); brothers, Carl Herman Johnson, J.D. Johnson and wife, Janice (both of Surgoinsville) and Roy Johnson and wife, Ruth (Kingsport, TN); sister-in-law, Carolyn Johnson (Surgoinsville, TN); brother-in-law, Arling C. Rhea (Kingsport, TN); two step-grandchildren and 4 step-great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and many special friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday (May 14, 2014) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga St., Kingsport. A brief visitation also will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday (May 15, 2014) at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church, 3200 Glen Alpine Road, Kingsport, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with Rev. Buddy Miller and Rev. Rhonda Hobbs officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jenniffer Trent.
A graveside service will follow the funeral at East Lawn Memorial Park, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the staff at Preston Place 1 for the exceptional loving care giving to Margaret during her stay there.
