Obituary of Garrison Looney

Garrison (Gary) Looney Kingsport - Garrison Looney went home to be with the Lord Monday (May 5, 2014) at Indian Path Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Hawkins County and lived the majority of his life in Kingsport. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War stationed outside Paris, France, from 1952-1954. In the 70's he enjoyed restoring Volkswagen Beetles. He also enjoyed gardening and yard work. He retired in 1986 from Eastman Kodak following almost 42 years of service. He received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in October of 1965 and was a faithful member of Higher Ground Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Phipps and Mollie P. Looney; his brothers, Kelsie Looney, Melvin Rufus (Joe) Looney, Landon Looney; sisters, Nellie Lee Looney and LueVernia Hawkins. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 59 years, Elizabeth Stubblefield Looney; daughter, Debbie Looney Darnell & husband, Jeff of Canton, GA; son, Gary Wayne Looney of Kingsport; he was loved dearly by his grandchildren, Kellie Darnell Coleman & husband Timothy of Woodstock, GA, Hunter Looney & wife Leah of Bristol, Kylee Looney of Kingsport, Tanner Looney & wife, Kristen of Kingsport; two great grandchildren, Ellanor and Rebekah Coleman of Woodstock, GA; sister, Jean Looney Price & husband Hal of Rogersville; along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday May 7, 2014 at Higher Ground Baptist Church, 1625 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport. A service will follow at 7 pm at the church with Dr. Phil Hoskins, Associate Pastor, Dr. Shannon Salyers, and Rev. Floyd Looney (nephew of Garrison) officiating. A military graveside service will be held at 11 am Thursday at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Kingsport with Flag Presentation by the American Legion Post #3 & #265. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am. The family extends special thanks to Dr. Brandon Moore and the ICU and Hospice staff at Indian Path Medical Center for their loving, compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 246, Abingdon, VA 24212. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Looney family.
