Obituary of Giles Nathan Kilgore

Giles Nathan Kilgore, 94, of Kingsport passed away (Wednesday April 16, 2014) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Nickelsville, Virginia, all of his 94 years were spent in Gate City or Kingsport. Giles was a man of many talents. In his early years in Southwest, VA, he had sawmills, thrashed wheat and did many things to make a living during the years before he left for service. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre and was wounded in March 1945. Giles was also involved in a busline, a hardware store and was a heavy equipment operator. He worked for many local equipment companies; and finally worked for himself as owner of Kilgore Excavating. He was also co-owner and builder of Richlands Motor Speedway. Upon retirement, he and Gladys spent years doing crafts; and also splitting their time between Kingsport and Frostproof, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, James M. Kilgore and Lizzie Price Kilgore; brothers, James Kilgore and D.P. Kilgore; two sisters, Orpha Hartsock and Mary Kilgore and grandson, Jason Kilgore He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Gladys Kilgore; daughter, Gay McReynolds and husband Bob, Fall Branch; four sons, "Jim" Kilgore and wife Debbie, Salisbury, NC, William "Bill Kilgore and wife Brenda, Kingsport, Jerry "Pat" Kilgore and wife Patricia, Kingsport and Ray G. Kilgore and wife Patricia, Gate City, Virginia; brother, Glen Kilgore, Weber City, Virginia; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Stokes and husband Rick, Kristy Morris, Kim McReynolds, Michael McReynolds and wife Mary, Nathan Kilgore, James Kilgore and wife Hope, Kelly Cassell, Jennifer Myers and husband Rusty and Shane Martin; thirteen great grandchildren, Aaron Stokes, Brayden Stokes, Courtney Duncan, Colby Duncan, Jacob Smith, Tyler McReynolds, Alex Kilgore, Alec Cassell, Keightly Martin, Brady Cassell, Logan Hagood, Lyndsey Hagood and Ethan Kilgore The family will receive friends from 4 till 7pm Friday (April 18th, 2014) at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 7pm with Pastor James Kilgore and Senior Pastor David Peters officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 11am Saturday at Holston View Cemetery with military graveside rites presented by the American Legion Post 3/265. Those who plan to attend the graveside are asked to join the family at the funeral home by 10:15am Saturday to follow in procession. Pallbearers will be grandsons and honorary pallbearers are great grandsons.
