Obituary of Shirley Miller Brooks

Church Hill - Shirley Miller Brooks, 77 of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Holston Valley Medical Center following a short battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Kingsport, Shirley had lived in Church Hill for most of her life. She was a member of West View Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ray Brooks; parents, Laster and Elise Miller; sister, Jane Larkins; sisters-in-law, Louise Gilreath and Mary Hunt. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Christie Willis and husband Tommy of Blountville; son, Mike Brooks and wife Mary of Church Hill; grandson, Brandon Thompson and Ashley; great-granddaughter, Graci Thompson; sisters, Evelyn Orrick and husband Jim of Kingsport and Marilyn Fletcher of Church Hill; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Barbara Snavely and husband Henry of Apoka, FL and Faye Lewis of Kingsport. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill, TN. Friends may also call anytime at the residence. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike Stout officiating. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Maple Lawn Cemetery (11-E Hwy) Jonesborough, TN. Pallbearers will be Jacob Jennings, Dustin Orrick, Mike Redman, Dustin Christian, Kevin McConnell and Brian Myers. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill is serving the Brooks family.
